KEY FEATURES AND MAIN DIRECTIONS OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT COMPANY NORTHERN TRUST

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the main characteristics of the activities and justify the main directions of development of the international investment management company Northern Trust in the context of the transformation of global financial markets, growing regulatory complexity, and financial turbulence. Methodology of research. The research methodology is based on a combination of systemic, institutional, and structural-functional approaches. The study uses methods of comparative analysis, generalization, logical-structural analysis, as well as analysis of official financial statements, corporate analytical materials, and publications of international financial organizations and business media. Findings. The results of the study show that Northern Trust implements a hybrid non-pure asset manager business model that combines asset management with developed custodial, trust, and financial infrastructure services. It has been established that this model ensures diversification of income sources, increases the company's resistance to market volatility, and forms long-term competitive advantages in the institutional investor segment. It has been substantiated that the key drivers of the company's development are the strengthening of its infrastructural role, the development of specialized investment strategies, the digitalization of services, and the integration of ESG approaches. Practical value. The practical significance of the research results lies in the possibility of using the conclusions obtained in the activities of institutional investors, financial advisors, and regulatory authorities to assess the stability and strategic prospects of international investment management companies. The research materials can be used in the educational process when teaching disciplines in international finance, investment management, and global financial markets, as well as serve as a basis for further scientific research in this area.
